Associated British Ports (ABP) has reached a 25-year agreement with DFDS Tor Line, the Danish roll-on/roll-off shipping line, to develop a new £35M riverside terminal for unit-load traffic at the Port of Immingham. The new facility will be a 200,000sq m ro-ro and container terminal at Immingham’s outer harbour with two ro-ro berths on the river Humber outside Immingham lock.
The new berths will be capable of accommodating vessels of up to 225m long, 35m wide and with a draught of up to 10m at all stages of tide. It will be the closest ro-ro terminal to the busy North Sea shipping lanes on the Humber.
The new river berths will improve scheduling as the vessels will no longer need to come through the lock at Immingham, which currently causes delays due to transit times and because of congestion at peak times.
