DHL eCommerce, the e-commerce arm of DHL Group, has announced the opening of a new depot in Minworth, Birmingham.
The new site is set to increase handling capacity by 50%, and service over 80 core routes year-round, with a further 30 during peak season.
Developed by Mileway, the newly refurbished c. 104,000ft² site is located within the Midlands’ so-called ‘Golden Triangle’, which DHL eCommerce believes will allow it to service more customers across the Midlands.
Having achieved and EPC ‘A’ rating, the depot operates solely on electricity. It has 13 electric vehicle charging points, in an effort to minimise delivery emissions, and also features an integrated rainwater harvesting system, to reduce on-site water consumption.

Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, commented: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of this new depot in Birmingham. As demand continues to grow across the UK, having a strategic location in the Midlands that connects us to even more customers is crucial.
“The location coupled with the sustainability credentials of the new site means we will serve more customers, more efficiently and more sustainably.”
The addition of this new site forms part of DHL eCommerce’s €560 million (c. £483.8m) investment in the UK announced in 2022 and follows the opening of two new sites – a 55,000ft² facility in Newscastle and a 269,000ft² parcel hub in Coventry – earlier this year.
