Primark has signed a pre-let agreement with industrial and real estate development company, SEGRO, for the construction of its first depot in Italy.
The 81,000m2 (c. 563,000ft2) hub will be located in Alessandria, close to the port of Genoa.
The depot will be developed according to a built-to-suit approach, reflecting Primark’s specific requirements.
The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ facility will also have a BiodiverCITY®, certification alongside several features that promote employee wellbeing.
The move into Italy supports Primark’s growth ambitions in the country and creates around 200 new jobs.
Luca Ciuffreda, head of Primark Italy, said: ”We are excited to further expand Primark’s presence in Italy with plans to develop our first depot here. This announcement comes as we mark a major milestone with the opening of our 20th Italian store in Biella.”
The project also marks a milestone for SEGRO taking the amount of leased space in the country to more than 1.5 million m2.
Head of Italy at SEGRO, Luca Sorbara added: “We are proud to support Primark in this important moment of growth. Over the past months we have worked side by side to define the features of its first depot in Italy, designed to meet the brand’s specific storage and distribution needs.”
