Advances in fleet and driver management technology are making transport operations safer, more efficient and increasingly data-driven, according to new research.
‘Navigating UK Transport and Logistics in 2026 and Beyond’, published by Microlise, found that 90% of transport and logistics managers believe technology has helped drivers feel safer than they did five years ago.
Based on responses from 250 UK transport and logistics professionals, the report highlights how operators are investing in AI, fleet technology and sustainability while continuing to manage operational and workforce challenges.
Safety emerged as one of the strongest themes. More than half of respondents said technologies such as in-cab cameras had improved driver performance by up to 50%, while 83% reported that camera systems had helped prevent a serious accident involving one of their drivers.
The research also points to growing confidence in artificial intelligence. More than 80% of transport and logistics managers now use AI to support fleet and supply chain operations, while 88% believe their organisations are well positioned to maximise the technology’s potential.
Sustainability is also climbing the agenda, with 60% of respondents now identifying environmental impact as a top business priority, up from 36% in the company’s 2025 report.
Technology is also delivering measurable financial benefits. Almost 60% of respondents said transport management systems had generated savings of up to £100,000.
However, the report suggests there is still room for improvement. Transport managers spend an average of 2.3 hours each day manually processing proof-of-delivery documentation, up from 1.7 hours in 2025, with the average daily cost of manual processing increasing to £172.40.
Workforce retention also remains a concern, with more than half of respondents saying they enjoy working in the industry but would consider changing careers within the next five years.
