UK business secretary Peter Kyle and industry minister Chris McDonald have met Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) chief executive and senior executives at the carmaker’s Gaydon headquarters to discuss the impact of the recent cyber incident and steps to restart production.
Officials said the government remains in daily contact with JLR and cyber experts to assess needs and provide support to bring systems back online, after site briefings and a tour during which ministers spoke with workers affected by the shutdown.
The visit formed part of wider engagement with the automotive supply chain; following the meeting at Gaydon, the ministers visited Webasto’s Sutton Coldfield site to gauge knock-on effects and discuss resilience with a key supplier.
According to the government, the National Cyber Security Centre is helping coordinate the operational response and that ministers have been meeting businesses, trade unions, trade associations and local authorities since last week to understand the incident’s impact.
“I know this is a deeply worrying time for all those affected by the ongoing cyber incident and that’s why I visited JLR today to hear from the company, supply chain and workers,” said Kyle.
“Getting JLR back online as soon as possible is my top priority, providing much needed certainty to workers and suppliers.”
