Unipart has announced a strategic collaboration with UK-based battery cell manufacturer Volklec.
Under the partnership, Unipart will offer comprehensive logistics and management services for EV battery cells, including transport, storage, testing, and triage.
Unipart will be responsible for global transport via certified carriers. The supply chain company will also manage storage at a 610,000ft2 warehouse, with intelligent charging reducing degradation and ensuring air freight compliance. Unipart will also conduct testing and triage, including state-of-health checks, capacity assessments and maintenance.
Chief operating officer of Volklec, Junaid Mujaver, described the partnership as a “landmark step” for the company, which supplies lithium-ion cells to the automotive, aerospace, marine and off-highway sectors.
“This collaboration underpins our strategy to create a secure, national [UK] supply chain for UK electrification and reinforces our role as a trusted manufacturer serving critical industries during the transition to net zero,” Mujaver added.
Unipart recently launched an end-to-end EV supply chain offering. Darren Leigh, Unipart chief executive, said the company is committed “to deliver cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable solutions that empower companies like Volklec to navigate the UK’s electrification transition seamlessly.”
