The US Postal Service (USPS) said it is “well prepared” for the 2025 peak season after investing in new facilities and equipment, and taking on 14,000 seasonal employees.
In 2025, the operator installed 94 new packaging and sorting machines, boosting its daily processing capacity to 88 million packages per day.
USPS has also opened new facilities in Dallas, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Johnson City, Tennessee; and other locations. Plans are in place to open new buildings “soon” in Memphis, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; and San Antonio, Texas.
Additionally, the company received nearly 29,000 new vehicles in 2025, deploying more than 24,000 of them on postal delivery routes.
The Postal Service said it expects to acquire 106,480 new vehicles, including 66,000 zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs), “demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility”. The company announced its fleet electrification strategy in December 2022, detailing plans for a fully electric fleet of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDVs) from 2027.
“The Postal Service plans throughout the year to deliver the nation’s mail and packages during the high-volume holiday season and we are well prepared and ready to deliver for the American public,” said postmaster general and CEO David Steiner.
In December 2024, USPS delivered more than 350 million mail pieces per operating day. It is expecting higher volumes this year.
USPS’s readiness for the 2025 peak season has been supported by a US$20bn (£15.1bn) investment in its facilities and processing capabilities over the past four years.
