A panel of experts from Wincanton will take part in a fireside-style discussion surrounding the use of digital transport technologies to reach net zero goals at this year’s Sustainable Supply Chain Conference, returning to 30 Euston Square in London on 24 June 2025.
A sponsor of the conference, Wincanton is a leading supply chain partner for British business and a trusted partner to many of the UK’s most recognisable brands and influential public bodies.
Its services include transport management and optimisation, dedicated and shared-user warehouse storage, handling and distribution; customer fulfilment centres, high volume e-fulfilment; two-person home delivery; and network optimisation.
The session will be chaired by Chris Walton, an experienced transport and logistics communications expert. As a specialist in transport, logistics and supply chain communications, Walton has been telling stories about successful businesses for over 20 years. Alongside his extensive experience in corporate communications and public relations, he has held senior roles as a journalist in the sector, including editor of Logistics Manager. He has hosted and judged the Supply Chain Excellence Awards and chaired panel debates and roundtables at leading industry events, including the Microlise Transport Conference.
He will be joined for the discussion by two prominent figures at Wincanton. The first is Helen Flanagan, product director for EyeQ. Flanagan joined Wincanton in 2023, as the product lead for EyeQ – Wincanton’s digital transport control tower product – and she plays a key role in the strategic shift in the business to focus on transport services powered by digital technology. She brings a depth of experience across logistics operations, sales, solutions design and consulting, and has enjoyed varied roles at DHL Supply Chain and Kuehne+Nagel.
Also taking part in the discussion will be Wincanton’s fleet director Sean Clifton. He joined Wincanton as fleet director in 2024, with his role encompassing engineering policy across road vehicles, new vehicle specification, road-going legal compliance. He is also a stakeholder in both health and safety and driver training policy development.
Additionally, he is leading Wincanton’s fleet decarbonisation strategy, which started with the installation of nine hypercharge stations across the UK and the deployment of battery electric tractor units for some of Wincanton’s key customers.
Clifton has an extensive background in fleet management and joined Wincanton from Asda, where he spent 12 years as senior manager for national fleets and was responsible for the procurement and management of over 8,000 assets, fuel distribution management, and safety and compliance. He has also worked in transport operations, managing distribution and home delivery customers at DHL Supply Chain, and has held a variety of roles at organisations including MFI and Walkers Snack Foods.
Session title: Building a resilient road to net zero through digital transport technologies
- The undeniable crucial role alternative fuel vehicles play in the journey towards a low-carbon future, with their widespread viability remaining a work in progress
- Exploring the steps organisations can take today to optimise their transport networks, increase efficiency and reduce emissions by utilising digital transport technologies
- How Wincanton is pioneering the use of alternative fuel vehicles to ensure businesses benefit from smarter, more sustainable solutions in the future
The conference, which will be held at 30 Euston Square, is a one-day face-to-face event where delegates can hear directly from industry-leading speakers about how business sustainability can influence their bottom line.
Innovation will continue to drive supply chain sustainability in the years to come. At the Sustainable Supply Chain Conference, delegates will learn how to ‘go green’ throughout their end-to-end operations, discussing topics such as the decarbonisation of road freight transport, the importance of industry collaboration to meet sustainability goals and how sustainable practises can actually be used to drive sales. Overall, the conference will consider the environmental and human impact of products, from cradle to grave.
From raw materials sourcing, production, storage and delivery to every transportation link in-between, the journey is not easy – the complexity of many supplier relationships and border crossings makes supply chain sustainability extremely challenging. But the payback for getting it right is priceless, delivering on the three ‘P’s of the bottom line – people, profits and the planet.
Amongst the list of speakers already announced for the conference are representatives of organisations such as the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), NHS England and Bidfood, as well as sponsors of the conference Descartes, Wincanton, Springpack, Mer Fleet Services and Aurora Insights. Keep an eye out on the Logistics Manager website, as well as on Twitter and LinkedIn, for more information on the event’s speakers as the conference draws closer.
