DHL invests in technical services sector in Asia Pacific

DHL Supply Chain has targeted the 3 billion euro market in outsourced service logistics in Asia Pacific which it reckons is growing at 25 per cent per year.

It is investing 50 million euros, specifically in technical services which includes software configuration, IT support and servicing and repair.

The investment is part of DHL’s plan to become twice as big across China, India, Japan and Singapore. The company is launching its first integrated technical services competency centre in Asia, on its 200,000 sq ft hub in Penang, Malaysia. This site will function as a showcase of their capabilities from storage and distribution of spare parts, to reverse logistics including screening, testing, repair and asset recovery.

Choo Yew Kwong, who has become vice president of technical services for DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific, will be based at the site.

He has served at Hewlett Packard and Compaq Computer Asia where, among other things, he was accountable for the end-to-end supply chain.
