Air freight specialist Saints Transport has replaced a significant proportion of its trunking fleet with 45 MAN Euro 5 tractor units in response to Transport for London’s more stringent Low Emission Zone standard which comes into force in January 2012.
[asset_ref id=”1150″]“The LEZ is an increasing problem for any operator located in the controlled area or running through it on a regular basis,” said vice-chairman, Piers Carroll. “So, while we’ve always run a modern fleet, we felt now was the time to look at even more fleet renewals. We had been running a large Euro 3 and Euro 4 fleet of MANs that meet current LEZ demands, but, we felt the 2012 changes demanded a move to Euro 5.”
The Heathrow-based company has taken 45 new MAN TGX 26.440 6×2/2 BLS units powered by 440PS engines with EGR technology, 12-speed MAN TipMatic automated transmissions and XLX sleeper cabs.
This time last year, it became the recipient of MAN’s largest ever delivery of 60 used TGA used tractor units.
Saints is to include famous quotations on the cab doors of the new MAN fleet. Carroll said: “I’ve called our flagship tractor ‘Anya Rose’ to celebrate the birth of my first child earlier this year, and on the door my favourite quote from Oscar Wilde ‘I have the simplest tastes, I am always satisfied with the best’.”
