Recycling and waste management group Silver Lining Industries has acquired the assets of Normanton based haulage firm SAM Transport and Distribution.
SLI plans to continue to run the logistics business and is buying SAM’s 26 vehicles and its 115,000sq ft distribution facility as part of the deal.
SLI reckoned that the Normanton facility had been under-used since the merger of two of SAM’s major customers, Scottish & Newcastle and Heineken, in 2009.
Peter Hunt, managing director of SLI said: “When we looked at the site we decided that there was definitely a business to be salvaged.”
SAM staff will be employed by a newly created division within SLI, LogiCare, which will serve existing SAM customers as well as SLI customers in the IT and electronics market.
SLI plan to use the site to provide the North of England with an ADR facility to store upwards of 70,000 pallets, supported by a nationwide distribution network and online requisition and tracking facilities.
