Caterpillar expects to make a decision on the sale of its external logistics business by the end of the third quarter of 2011.
In its first quarter results the company said: “We have received significant interest from around the world and would expect to make a decision on the future of our external logistics business by the end of the third quarter of 2011.”
The third party logistics business has more than 50 customers worldwide in a number of different industries.
The company announced that it was considering the sale of the business in March. Steve Larson, vice president of Caterpillar and chairman and president of Cat Logistics, said at the time: “Given Caterpillar’s increased focus on the significant growth opportunities in its core businesses, the company has decided to consider its options for the future of this business. As we work through these alternatives, we will continue to be sharply focused on delivering value for our customers.”
