Car maker Dacia has extended its contract with Gefco, which provides a multi-modal logistics service combining rail and road to ship finished vehicles to the Romanian and Italian markets from the Pitesti plant in Romania.
Starting this year, vehicles are now distributed in Italy by Gruppo Mercurio, the Italian company in which Gefco has acquired a 70% stake.
. Gefco first set up a rail service for its logistics department in Romania in 2008. It handles inbound shipments including the collection of parts from several European countries, such as Germany and Belgium, and delivery to the CKD Centre in Pitesti to supply the assembly plant.
Finished vehicles are shipped to the Parma industrial park for distribution across Italy.
Gefco ships an average of 100,000 vehicles for Dacia, which is part of the Renault group, every year.
