Norbert Dentressangle has invested more than £1 million in a site at Rugby, primarily to serve as a national distribution centre for Continental Tyres.
The Continental operation occupies about 60 per cent of the 212,000 sq ft. Dentressangle intends to use the rest for other customers.
Continental has used Dentressangle since 2006 to handle the storage and distribution of tyres to retailers and fitters throughout the UK.
The operation has been moved to Rugby from the previous site in Birmingham.
The new site is also one of the first to benefit from Continental’s new in-house warehouse management system which has been interfaced with Dentressangle’s SHARP3 transport planning system.
The Rugby site will also act as a consolidation centre, where Continental volumes are combined with volumes from Bridgestone UK, another Dentressangle customer. It provides a next day delivery service to retailers and wholesalers.
Dentressangle has invested in a 50-strong fleet of radial vehicles, including 18 tonne rigids, 7.5 tonne rigids and long wheel based vans, in addition to the existing fleet of 35 articulated vehicles for trunking, cross-dock and bulk deliveries.
