Ken Abram has closed its doors after 44 years owing to increasingly difficult trading conditions and the loss of key contracts.
Administrators were called two weeks ago, but it seems that the firm could not be sold on, so the decision was taken to close. The 74 staff have been made redundant, with just two employees playing a caretaker role at the Skelmersdale headquarters. Matthew Bowker, speaking on behalf of the administrators said: “The company ceased trading a week ago and we are in the process of gathering assets from customers and paying off creditors.”
Bowker said that the turnover had dropped by from £10m to about £5.5m over the last three years and the company was “haemorrhaging money”.
