Australia Post is accelerating investment in its South Australian delivery network, committing to four new purpose-built facilities across Murray Bridge, Kadina, Port Pirie and Tanunda.
The new sites are designed to lift parcel capacity and improve delivery speed in some of the state’s fastest-growing regional centres.
According to Australia Post, online shopping in South Australia has increased 4.9% year-on-year, with volumes jumping 9% during the November–December peak period.
Each facility is expected to process between 2,000 and 3,700 parcels per day, supporting greater delivery reliability and faster last-mile performance. In line with Australia Post’s emissions reduction strategy, all sites will feature rooftop solar to maximise local energy generation and support charging infrastructure for electric delivery vehicles.
Australia Post’s executive general manager of network operations, Shane Plant, said the investment reflects a long-term commitment to regional communities.
“With 80% of South Australian households now shopping online, parcel volumes in regional areas continue to grow. These modern facilities are built to handle that growth, setting us up to support our customers into the future.
“We’ve focused on designing sites that improve safety, increase capacity and streamline transport flow, creating more efficient workplaces for our teams so they can get on the road safely and deliver for our customers now and into the future,” he added.
Construction is underway at all four locations, with Murray Bridge (1,143m²) scheduled to open in June, Kadina (1,111m²) and Port Pirie (836m²) in July and Tanunda (1,335m²) in August 2026.
The regional investment forms part of a broader state-wide expansion. It follows the October 2025 announcement of Australia Post’s largest-ever infrastructure commitment of A$500m (c. £258m) to build a Parcel Super Hub in Adelaide. That facility, will have the capability to process up to 400,000 parcels per day and is due to open in 2028.
