Cambridgeshire-based haulier Buffaload has secured a new five-year contract with Co-op, extending a partnership that has spanned more than a decade.
Under the agreement, Buffaload will truck ambient products from Co-op’s National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Coventry to 11 regional distribution centres across the UK. From there, goods will be delivered to local Co-op stores nationwide.
The contract builds on a shared commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Buffaload said it invested significantly its fleet of LNG (liquefied natural gas) vehicles and has committed to using bio-LNG, produced locally from food and agricultural waste. This transition will enable significant reductions in tailpipe emissions from its vehicles.
Stuart Rendall, head of logistic operations at Co-op, said the extended partnership supports the retailer’s ambition to serve communities across the UK through a resilient and effective logistics network.
“Extending and deepening our work with Buffaload is an exciting development; we have a shared history of collaboration and innovation… With our successful work together over the years and shared commitments to carbon reduction we are really looking forward to the next chapter in our partnership.”
John Kerrigan, CEO of Buffaload, noted that the new agreement reflects the strength and breadth of the long-standing relationship between the two businesses.
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Co-op by adding ambient logistics to our well-established temperature-controlled network.”
He added: “This is testament to our long‑standing collaborative relationship with Co‑op, which reaches well beyond logistics, including support for shared charitable partnerships such as Barnardo’s and the role we play in working with Co‑op suppliers to provide carbon‑reduction solutions.”
