FedEx has introduced 17 electric trucks into its fleet in Japan, supporting its goal of achieving carbon neutral operations by 2040.
Both Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter and Isuzu ELF electric vehicles now support parcel pickup and delivery in Tokyo, Kanagawa and Osaka.
Each vehicle, with a payload capacity of 1.5 tonnes, is expected to reduce tailpipe emissions by about 3.3 metric tonnes per year compared with an equivalent diesel-powered truck.
“These new EVs will reduce emissions on high‑density urban routes while helping us maintain the speed and quality our customers expect,” said Kei Alan Kubota, managing director of FedEx Japan.
“We will continue to accelerate the adoption of low‑emission technologies and contribute to cleaner air for local communities.”
In addition to the EV roll-out, FedEx offers a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool across its network, enabling customers to inform future shipping strategies.
According to FedEx, the initiative contributes to Japan’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2035 compared to 2013 levels and achieve net-zero by 2050.
