GEODIS has opened its first dedicated healthcare cold chain cross-dock facility in the USA, strengthening its capabilities for handling temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.
Located in Chicago, the 78,000ft² container freight station (CFS) includes a purpose-built 5,200ft² temperature-controlled area designed for the short-term stowage of healthcare products moving through global air and ocean networks.
The bonded facility, located near O’Hare International Airport, will act as a key node in GEODIS’ freight forwarding operations.
The site features two temperature zones tailored to pharmaceutical requirements: 4,600ft² for storage at 15-25ºC and 600ft² of refrigerated capacity for products at 2-8ºC.
“The opening of our first dedicated healthcare cold chain cross-dock in the US demonstrates our commitment to the integrity and efficacy of the life-saving products we handle,” said Josh Jungwirth, executive vice president of freight forwarding at GEODIS in the Americas.
The Chicago facility is IATA CEIV Pharma-certified and operates as a Certified Cargo Screening Facility, ensuring compliance with strict regulatory standards for pharmaceutical handling.
GEODIS operates similar cold chain facilities in France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.
