Drydocks World, a UAE-based shipyard and subsidiary of DP World, has co-founded a new international initiative aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of the maritime industry through collaborative innovation and unified ESG standards.
The Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA) brings together five major shipyards across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including Spain’s Astilleros Shipyard Group, Germany’s BREDO Dry Docks, and IMC Shipyard Services Group, which operates facilities in Singapore, China and Thailand.
Together, the founding members aim to drive adoption of clean technologies, enhance environmental performance, and support sustainable shipbuilding and retrofitting practices.
“The formation of the GGSA reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey,” said Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World.
“This alliance marks a significant step forward in fostering cleaner technologies and collective innovation.”
With the maritime sector under increasing regulatory and commercial pressure to cut emissions, the GGSA will act as a platform for knowledge sharing, co-development and deployment of sustainable solutions, including hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient retrofits and digital optimisation tools.
Drydocks World’s COO, Imran Inamdar, added that the alliance would “help raise performance standards, improve operational outcomes and bring practical solutions to market faster”.
The GGSA becomes the third global sustainability-focused coalition backed by DP World, following the Zero Emission Port Alliance and the First Movers Coalition.
