Food distributor Goya Europa has introduced a semi-automated pallet shuttle system at its warehouse in Casarrubios del Monte in central Spain.
The Mecalux Pallet Shuttle comprises five racking blocks measuring 8m high, with capacity for around 3,000 pallets. Storage lanes with depths of up to 33 pallets maximise density and make optimal use of the available space.
Inside each lane, a motorised shuttle moves autonomously to speed up inbound and outbound flows, reduce handling times and minimise operational errors.
The storage system has significantly enhanced Goya Europa’s logistics performance, supporting rapid replenishment to 4,000 points of sale across Spain.
“The semi-automated shuttle provides the flexibility to manage more than 2,200 items and run a more efficient operation,” a company representative said.
Goya Europa is the main distributor of Latin American food in Europe, offering around 500 SKUs including beans, flours, seasonings and tinned goods.
Globally, Goya Foods operates 26 production plants and multiple warehouses in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the USA and Spain.
