GXO Logistics is expanding its partnership with Agility Robotics to deploy humanoid robots at two additional US warehouses, following test operations in Georgia.
Agility’s Digit robots will be introduced at GXO’s facilities in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee, to support e-commerce fulfilment by performing repetitive material-handling tasks.
Deployments are expected to begin in early 2027 using Digit 4 robots, with plans to transition to Digit 5 when it becomes commercially available.
The expansion builds on a partnership that began with proof-of-concept trials at GXO’s Flowery Branch facility in Georgia in 2023. In June 2024, the companies signed a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) agreement.
At Flowery Branch, Digit robots work alongside existing automation, moving totes and placing them onto conveyors. The robots have handled more than 100,000 totes since deployment, according to the 3PL.
Patrick Kelleher, chief executive officer of GXO, said: “Together, we’ve helped pioneer the use of humanoid robotics in the warehouse and this expansion reflects our confidence in the technology’s ability to create measurable value for our customers and a better working environment for our teams.”
The robots are managed through Agility Arc, a cloud-based platform that coordinates robot fleets and integrates them with warehouse operations.
The expansion follows several other developments for Agility Robotics. In October, agricultural machinery manufacturer AGCO announced plans to pilot Digit at its Kansas facility in 2027.
Agility has also recently announced a 50,000ft² expansion in Pittsburgh to support robot deployment and servicing, alongside an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA.
