At the most recent Kazakhstan–Kenya Business Forum, the two countries explored the possibility of a new logistics corridor, using the their partnership to link the African and Asian continents.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reportedly suggested linking Middle Corridor with East Africa’s major maritime routes through Kenya’s ports of Mombasa and Lamu.
This was in addition to suggesting that direct flights between Astana and Nairobi should commence to support logistics and commercial aspirations.
During the meeting, Tokayev proposed the idea of establishing a specialised expert group focused on transport and logistics infrastructure development to further the two countries goals.
Such groups and transport links would accelerate bilateral trade, facilitating growth via the creation of an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority chief executive officer, Daniel Manida, said: “The NIFC is positioning Nairobi as Africa’s leading hub for fund domiciliation, startups, and financial innovation.
“A gateway where global investors can structure African investments, startups can scale across the continent, and international firms can establish regional headquarters.
“Kenya is poised to play a central role in shaping that transformation.”
