Finnish retailer and wholesaler Kesko is developing an automated foodservice logistics centre in Nurmijärvi, Finland.
The facility, which began construction at the start of 2026, is being developed as a central warehouse for Kesko’s hotel, restaurant and catering business.
The automation includes automated pallet handling, high-bay storage, shuttle-based storage and goods-to-person picking for smaller items. KNAPP has been selected to deliver the automation for the first phase of the facility.
According to KNAPP, the system is designed to adapt to future changes and growing volumes.
Pekka Tala, development director at Kesko, said: “We are building an automation solution designed to serve our business for decades to come.
“That is why it was important for us to find a solution that not only meets today’s needs, but also enables us to develop our operations in the future.”
Detailed planning of the automation system is now beginning, with installation scheduled to start in 2028.
The logistics centre is expected to become operational in phases during 2029 and 2030.
