Belgium’s Liege Airport (LGG) and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) have agreed to collaborate on transatlantic air cargo initiatives.
Under a sister airport agreement, signed on 30 October, the airports have established a formal framework for cooperation that aims to increase freighter traffic between both airports.
It envisages launching joint marketing and sales initiatives to attract new air freight operators and logistics partners to both platforms, as well as collaborating on operational and digital projects.
Torsten Wefers, vice president of sales and marketing at Liege Airport stated: “This agreement is a testament to our shared vision for the future of air cargo. Together with Chicago Rockford International Airport, we are building a robust transatlantic corridor that will benefit shippers, carriers, and the global supply chain.”
Liege and Chicago Rockford are both cargo-centric airports. Today, 53 cargo airlines and 65 logistics companies serve LGC, which is Europe’s fifth largest cargo airport. Rockford, meanwhile, is home to the second-largest UPS hub in North America and acts as the Midwest gateway airport for Maersk Air Cargo.
“This partnership formalises our collaboration and sets the stage for exciting new opportunities,” said Zachary Oakley, executive director of RFD.
The sister airport agreement was signed at Air Cargo South East Asia in Singapore.
