Heidi Barnard, head of sustainability at NHS Supply Chain, will be sharing how the NHS is working to reduce its Scope 3 emissions through technology, contracts and collaboration at the Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition on 18 March 2026.
Taking place at the NEC Birmingham on 18–19 March 2026, the exhibition is co-located with IntraLogisteX, Robotics & Automation and the new Fulfilment & Last Mile Expo, which are expected to attract more than 11,000 visitors from manufacturing, logistics and engineering-led sectors.
Barnard will be speaking in a session titled ‘From Commitments to Credible Action: How NHS Supply Chain Is Accelerating Scope 3 Decarbonisation Through Technology, Contracts & Collaboration’ at 1:40-2pm on day one of the exhibition.
With more than 20 years of experience driving environmental strategy across the manufacturing, construction and healthcare sectors, Barnard brings deep technical expertise alongside practical, system-wide insight.
In her current role she leads strategic programmes supporting the NHS Net Zero, Scope 3 and Social Value agenda, specialising in decarbonisation, behaviour change and cross‑sector collaboration. Barnard is also a passionate mentor and advocate for building green skills across the workforce.
During her talk in Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition Theatre, Barnard will discuss:
- How the NHS will reach Net Zero across its supply chain and its roadmap to 2045
- Strengthening supplier requirements and how transparency, carbon reduction plans and social value weightings are driving sector‑wide progress
- How 3PL and contracting are embedding decarbonisation into operations, from integrating Net Zero and Social Value in procurement to ensuring suppliers meet disclosure requirements
- Where technology is making the biggest impact today, including digital emissions reporting, route optimisation, lifecycle insights and innovations that help suppliers measure, reduce, and verify carbon across complex, multi‑tier supply chains.
The day one programme also includes sessions on digitising warehouse workflows for sustainability, the role of transit packaging in balancing cost, compliance and carbon, AI as a decarbonisation tool and much more.
Alongside the exhibition floor, 60 sessions will place across three seminar theatres aimed at helping visitors understand how to deploy innovation safely, profitably and at scale.
Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition is dedicated to sustainable practices and processes in the supply chain and logistics industry. Attendees include decision-makers actively seeking solutions that can help them on their journey to achieving true business sustainability.
