The UK division of logistics company UTi Worldwide has taken a sub-lease on Whatman International’s warehouse on the Larkfield Trading Estate, New Hythe Lane, Aylesford, Kent.

Chelsea (General Partner), the joint venture company between Chancerygate and clients of Insight Investment, has sold the Union Quay warehouse on Clayton Road, Hayes in Middlesex to Property and Management Services for £6.756m.

“We are a polluter” said Ken Hall, vice president of Prologis, and “we recognise that we have a responsibility.”

St Modwen is seeking planning consent for a 139,350 sq m (1.5 million sq ft) scheme on a 40.47ha (100 acre) plot within the 242.81ha (600 acres) it acquired from Corus in 2004 for £17.5m at Llanarwen, Newport, South Wales.

Opus Land and Arlington Property Investors are set to increase the size of their Opus Nine development in the Black Country following the £2m plus acquisition of an adjacent 3.44ha (8.5-acre) plot owned by garden tool maker Spear & Jackson.

Boultbee Group in association with Schroders, is opening of a 7,936 sq m (85,422 sq ft) speculatively built £22 million warehouse/industrial unit called Zenith 2, at Junction 6 Industrial Estate, Witton.

Sbh.uk is to project manage and act as quantity surveyors for a new 19,300 sq m (210,000 sq ft) warehouse and office complex on First Point, Burton-on-Trent, for Eden Park Developments. The scheme is due to be completed in June 2006.

According to King Sturge’s latest UK Industrial and Distribution Floorspace Today survey, speculative development of industrial property in the UK is at its highest level for five years and large distribution facilities account for over 70 per cent of it.
