EFL Project Logistics has delivered and executed the logistics for Sri Lanka’s first commercial-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The project involved handling 25 Battery Energy Storage System units, including 18 units weighing 42 metric tons each and classified as hazardous cargo.
EFL Logistics stated that moving equipment of this scale required far more than conventional freight forwarding, including planning, engineering expertise and safety compliance.
EFL Project Logistics managed the complete end-to-end execution of the operation, from vessel arrival and port handling at the Port of Colombo to customs clearance, specialised inland transportation, temporary storage management, and final unloading and positioning at the project sites in Galle and Matara.
Developed for the Galle and Matara BESS projects by Galilee BESS (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of KHEN Energy Limited, the initiative is designed to enhance the stability and resilience of Sri Lanka’s national power grid.
Once operational, the system will support greater integration of renewable energy sources while helping manage fluctuations in peak demand and intermittent power generation.
