The Port of Liverpool has announced receipt of its largest ever shipment from agricultural supply chain company ADM, marking a major milestone for the port’s bulk handling capability.
The ADM shipment arrived from New Orleans, USA, in late January, on a vessel measuring 229 metres in length.
The 67,000-tonnes agribulk shipment included maize, high protein soya, soya hull pellets and corn gluten. These commodities “play a vital role in supporting the UK’s agricultural and animal feed sectors”.
“This shipment represents an important milestone for ADM and underscores the strength of our global supply chains,” said Jonathan Lane, managing director, ADM Agriculture Ltd and ADM UK country manager.
“Our partnership with Peel Ports and the Port of Liverpool is integral to our operations and central to our commitment as a dependable supplier of high-quality feedstuffs to the UK animal feed industry.”
The port added that handling multiple product types within a single consignment demonstrates its capability to manage high-volume, varied bulk cargoes efficiently, while maintaining the segregation, quality control and turnaround times required by customers.
Peel Ports Group, which also owns Heysham, Manchester Ship Canal, Medway (Sheerness / Chatham), Clydeport and the Port of East Anglia, handles around 70 million tonnes of cargo annually.
