The Tour de France, the world-famous annual cycling competition, has extended its partnership with end-to-end logistics solutions provider XPO Logistics until 2030.
This announcement comes as XPO Logistics prepares for the 112th edition of the competition, which takes place in just a few weeks’ time.
With this year’s Tour de France beginning on 5 July 2025, starting in Lille and ending at Paris’ Champs-Élysées, XPO Logistics will be installing key infrastructure – including village modules, podiums, arches, barriers and more – ahead of each of the competition’s 21 stages.
XPO Logistics has been the Official Transport Partner of the Tour de France since 1980, with this contract extending the total length of this partnership to a minimum of half a century. It has also been the official carrier of the Tour de France Femmes, which will take place in July and August this year, since its creation in 2022.
Speaking on this milestone, Luis Gómez, president for Europe at XPO Logistics, commented: “We’re honoured to extend our Official Transport Partner role through to 2030, as we approach the milestone of 50 years of partnership.
“This long-standing collaboration reflects our shared commitment to operational excellence, innovation and sustainability.
“I’m particularly pleased to confirm the continuation of this journey, and we remain fully dedicated to bringing the same level of passion, precision and care to both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.”
XPO Logistics explains that logistical preparations for the Tour de France begin each year in October, ahead of the event in the following summer.
Its day-to-day responsibilities include setting up the start villages and finish lines in four to five hours, setting up intermediate points in roughly three hours, and dismantling all infrastructure in just a few hours before the transfer to the next stage.
Bruno Kloeckner, managing director for France at XPO Logistics, added: “The Tour [de France] is much more than a logistical challenge: it’s an honour and a source of great pride for our teams.
“For more than 45 years, we have shared with the Tour de France teams the same commitment to excellence, innovation and responsibility.
“This long-standing partnership embodies our values and our ability to support major events in their sustainable transformation.”
As part of its commitment to being a ‘pioneer in more sustainable transport’ XPO Logistics is continuing to roll out its LESS hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) solution in 2025, based on the use of HVO biofuel injected into its fuel tank network.
This biofuel, XPO Logistics says, reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90%. It claims that its use of HVO last year let to a reduction of 223,370kg of CO₂ emissions. It also notes that its vehicles meet Euro 6 standards, limiting nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 70%.
XPO Logistics has confirmed that this initiative will be deployed on both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes, reflecting a shared commitment with the organiser of both events, Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), to ‘increasingly responsible competition’.
Thomas Cariou, corporate social responsibility director at ASO, said: “The Tour de France is a living laboratory for the environmental transition of major sporting events.
“With partners such as XPO Logistics, who share our ambition to reduce the race’s carbon footprint, we are taking new steps every year towards a more responsible tour.
“The rollout of HVO biofuel across the entire logistics convoy is a concrete example of this commitment to working towards a more sustainable future.”
