Singapore’s National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), ST Logistics and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) recently signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upskill 15,000 workers in digitalisation, sustainability and workplace safety.
The NTUC explained that these key areas were identified as presenting opportunities to ‘enhance sectoral resilience and future-readiness amid global economic uncertainties, technological disruptions and shifting trade patterns’.
This comes as it was announced that ST Logistics, which provides supply chain management and integrated logistics solutions to the defence, government and healthcare sectors, has been reappointed as a SkillsFuture ‘Queen Bee’ in the supply chain and logistics sector.
SkillsFuture Queen Bees (SFQBs) are, the Singapore government says, industry leaders who take on a leading role to champion skills development in organisations, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
SFQBs provide skills advice and support to guide organisations in identifying and acquiring the skills needed for business transformation. ST Logistics has been an SQFB for two years, and this reappointment will see the company retain the title for a further three years.
So far, ST Logistics has reportedly supported 80 SMEs in its network with their transformation through the adoption of automation, AI, and autonomous technologies and competencies. It is expected that over the next three years, the company will take this one step further by supporting ‘at least 150 SMEs’ in advancing their workforce capabilities.
NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng commented: “AI and digitalisation are reshaping the supply chain and logistics landscape, bringing not just technological change but a seismic shift in the nature of work.
“Job roles are being redefined and skillsets need to be recalibrated. While some jobs may be phased out, new opportunities are emerging, and this transformation is just the beginning.
“This Queen Bee strategy, which incorporates the NTUC Company Training Committee at a cluster level, signifies a key step in turning awareness into actionable skills and tools, with the aim of upskilling 15,000 workers from ST Logistics and its network of suppliers.
“We remain committed to helping our workers build future-ready skills, stay competitive, and access meaningful career pathways – along with better wages, welfare and work prospects.”
Loganathan Ramasam, CEO of ST Logistics, added: “In a fast-moving world, transformation is no longer a choice but a shared responsibility.
“Over the past two years, we’ve worked closely with our partners to rethink how supply chains grow, adapt and thrive.
“From digital workflows to AI-powered tools, and from greener practices to safer workplaces, we’ve seen how progress takes root when innovation is made accessible and people are empowered to act.
“This next chapter deepens that mission. Together, we’re building a future-ready ecosystem that is digital at its core, sustainable in its mindset and safe for every worker who keeps our supply chains moving.”
