Global package delivery and supply chain management company UPS has unveiled its largest and most advanced logistics center in Asia Pacific.
UPS Taoyuan International Logistics houses advanced automation technology and storage and warehouse management solutions for customers in a wide range of industries.
Located five kilometers from Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), Taiwan’s largest cargo airport, it also provides fast connectivity to the global UPS network via the 22 flights UPS operates into and out of TPE every week.
UPS’s investment in the TILC totals nearly US $100 million (c. £8.7m), with more than 81,000m² (c. 875,000ft²) of floor space.
Among its features are a fleet of autonomous mobile robots (AMR), which are programmed to carry out tasks such as pick and pack, and inventory management.
Reportedly, AMRs enable UPS to process and pack shelves roughly 40% faster than current processing speeds.
Customers can also double the number of products they can stack in the equivalent space on regular shelving. Meanwhile, errors made during the order picking process are reduced to near zero.
UPS Asia Pacific supply chain solutions and freight forwarding president, Lauren Zhao, said: “Businesses across Asia Pacific are pursuing many opportunities to strengthen every part of their supply chain.
“Taiwan plays a vital role in global supply chains, especially semiconductor manufacturing and high-value sectors such as medical technology.
“The TILC, which was created to meet evolving customer needs, boosts productivity, efficiency, agility, and gives customers flexibility for future challenges.”
