Caterpillar dealer Warren CAT has automated parts storage and fulfilment at its Store 05 facility in Midland, Texas, USA.
The operation serves customers across West Texas and Oklahoma and combines a storefront, engine shop, warehouse and parts distribution operation. Orders include Will Call, Parts Shuttle and Engine Shop requirements, each with different priorities and levels of urgency.
The system, implemented by Kardex, comprises 20 AutoStore R5 robots and 20,852 storage bins within approximately 5,600ft², alongside three CarouselPorts and two ConveyorPorts.
It also incorporates Kardex FulfillX warehouse execution system, integrated with Warren CAT’s existing FDC WMSv2 warehouse management system. The WES prioritises outbound orders by category, due date and urgency before translating them into AutoStore tasks.
Kardex said it analysed more than 93,000 historical orders, almost 300,000 order lines and nearly 25,000 products when designing the system. It has been sized to support 3,648 picking lines and 751 put-away lines per day based on anticipated fifth-year volumes.
Reportedly, the system has reduced operator travel and increased small-parts storage density since going live.
Fred Fox, president of Kardex Solutions, said: “Warren CAT now has a parts fulfilment platform that is delivering practical value today while giving the operation room to grow.”
The system can be expanded through the addition of robots and ports as volumes increase.
