Taiwanese container line Evergreen has incorporated Teesport into its weekly shipping services from the Far East. It is using a transhipment service from Rotterdam operated by Feederlink.
The Feederlink service started on 1st August and is expected to bring in additional volumes of containers from suppliers in the Far East.
These will include Tesco shipments being delivered to the retailer’s new 1.2m sq ft import facility, which opened at Teesport on 17th August. Tesco chose Teesport as its northern portcentric logistics hub in 2008, enabling the retailer to locate, store and distribute goods destined for its Northern UK markets.
The frequencies per week of the service are expected to increase by September. Evergreen joins fellow shipping line, Maersk, which also ships containers through Teesport on feeder vessels on behalf of Tesco.
