AKW wins Woolcool packaging contract

The Wool Packaging Company has hired Manchester logistics firm AKW to produce and distribute its insulated packaging cold chain solution, called Woolcool.

The sustainable, biodegradable Woolcool can be used as an alternative to polystyrene and polyethylene for distributing temperature sensitive goods, such as fresh or frozen foods, and pharmaceuticals.

The specialist contract packing division of AKW takes naturally washed wool fleeces and packs them into branded recyclable polyethylene food-grade film pockets. They are then sealed with a bespoke machine.

AKW holds the components for Woolcool on site at the premier 26 Bond warehousing facility in the heart of Trafford Park. Following production, AKW also distributes the product through its transport business, AK Worthington.
