More than two thirds of fleets that use vehicle tracking reckon it cuts costs, according to the Ctrack Vehicle Tracking Survey.

Some 70 per cent said tracking reduced costs, while 59 per cent believe tracking increases productivity and 47 per cent said it added understanding of driver behaviour.

The survey of 250 UK fleet decision makers found the greatest use of traffic was among van fleets (82 per cent) compared with 53 per cent for heavy goods vehicles and 34 per cent for cars.

A number of areas of cost saving were identified including average reductions of fuel usage by 8.6 per cent of respondents; overtime claims by 15.3 per cent; and communications overheads by 13.3 per cent.
