CitySprint is to use roller-bladers and runners to avoid congestion and make deliveries during the London Olympics.
It has been trialling different delivery options and has decided to increase its motorcycle and push-bike fleets supported by a team of five roller-bladers and 20 joggers.
Chief executive Patrick Gallagher said: “We have spent months preparing for the games, which has included making a substantial investment in market leading routeing technology as well as testing different scenarios and methods of transport.”
It will also use courier assistants will be used in vans to access addresses affected by road closures and parking restrictions and there will also be the option for customers to collect items from CitySprint service centres with extended opening times.
The company is also encouraging customers to consider extending loading bay opening times; re-timing deliveries which need to go on a van (evening van deliveries); and ensuring all deliveries that could go on a bike or on foot are booked as such.
