FedEx Express has completed the acquisition of the Polish courier company Opek giving it access to a domestic ground network with an estimated $70 million in annual revenue and 12.5 million shipments annually.
Opek was founded in 1994 and operates a national services from an automated hub in Lomianki, near Warsaw, and additional hubs in Lodz and Katowice. It has 44 sites throughout Poland. More than 1,200 employees work for Opek and the company engages more than 1,300 contracted drivers.
“FedEx entered the Polish market in 1989 and we have been continuously expanding our services since then. This acquisition is another important step to expanding our presence and accelerating growth in this exciting region,” said Gerald P Leary, president, FedEx Express Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
