Aldi is set to start work on a 856,000 sq ft regional distribution centre in Yorkshire.
The £25 million scheme on the Goldthorpe Industrial Estate in the Dearne Valley near Barnsley secured planning in 2008 and was renewed last year. The proposals include a service station, 180 car spaces and a lorry park along with the main building on the site off Commercial Road.
A spokeswoman for Aldi said: “We are due to obtain vacant possession of the Goldthorpe site in August 2012, and hope to start construction on site during the first quarter of 2013.”

Aldi has said that employment at the 24-hours a day depot will include long term skilled and unskilled workers. The regional centre will supply stores extending from Scarborough to Boston in Lincolnshire and from the western side of the Peak District to the east coast.
