Unilever has come out top in Gartner’s annual ranking of supply chain organisations ahead of second-placed Inditex and third-placed H & M Hennes & Mauritz.
The ranking its based on a number of elements including: return on assets, inventory turns, revenue growth as well as peer opinion and Gartner opinion.

Gartner said of Unilever: “This company has a global virtual manufacturing network that can quickly cater to fluctuations in local demand. Unilever also has the ability to design its products proactively for profitability.”
Inditex has made conscious trade-offs between higher production costs and speed-to-market, with manufacturing capabilities in Spain for some products, said Gartner, while H&M takes an innovative approach to designer events, one that pools consumer interest.
