Royal Mail has launched its Delivery to Neighbour scheme after receiving Ofcom approval for the regulatory changes that allow it to leave packages with neighbours if no-one is at home.
Up until now Royal Mail has not been allowed to deliver to a neighbour as part of its standard practice.
The growth of online shopping and home delivery, has highlighted the fact that Royal Mail was the only major carrier not able to offer this option.
Chief customer officer Mike Newnham said: “We are delighted that Ofcom has approved the regulatory changes that enable us to roll out the Delivery to Neighbour initiative across the UK. This means that customers will benefit from the improved convenience during the busy Christmas period and beyond.”
