The Manchester office of Colliers International advised Asda on the acquisition of the premises. “This facility has a highly productive design with excellent environmental credentials. We’re delighted to have advised Asda on what is a hugely significant regional property development and key strategic distribution facility,” said Julien Kenny-Levick, director, logistics and industrial at Colliers’ Manchester office.
Asda will have 25 distribution centres serving its national network of super centres and supermarkets and convenience stores with the opening of the facilities at Kingsway, which was developed by Wilson Bowden Developments.
The new centre is designed to create increased capacity for its network due to store growth in the region, especially following last year’s acquisition of the Netto chain.
Asda awarded a five year contract to run the operation to Wincanton.
Distribution director Ian Stansfield said: “We awarded the contract to Wincanton because of the clear passion shown by their operations people and their management of grocery supply chain from warehouse through to store delivery.
“We knew of their capabilities through our existing relationships and we were also impressed by their proposals for collaborative transport solutions in terms of shared fleet and resources, which fits closely with our strategy to drive efficiencies and contribute to our efforts for reducing the company‘s carbon footprint.”
