Dachser is to acquire Azkar SA, its Spanish logistics partner, in a move to strengthen its European overland transport network.
Azkar had sales of €367m last year and is one of Spain’s leading groupage operators. Dachser has held a 10 per cent stake in the company since 2008. Azkar operates at a profit despite the dire state of the Spanish economy.
Following the acquisition the business will continue to be headed by José Antonio Orozco and the current management team. For the time being, the company will also continue to operate under the same name.
Dachser chief executive Bernhard Simon said: “Our corporate business models have seen very similar developments in key areas.” As well as the full-coverage branch office network across the Iberian Peninsula, Azkar’s strong position in contract logistics also ties in well with Dachser’s strategic orientation.”
José Antonio Orozco said: “We are the number one in Spain. With Dachser behind us, we will be able to secure our future and have access to a dynamically evolving, global logistics network.”
