Discount retailer has hired DHL Supply Chain to manage transport operations from its new £7m distribution centre at Hoddesdon.
The Hoddesdon site will serve 140 stores in the South East by mid-2013 and DHL will deliver some 13,000 pallets a week.
DHL already manages logistics for the company’s outbase operations, which serve 200 stores nationwide.
“The scale, experience and resource of DHL can really support a business such as ours,” said Huw Jenkins, Poundland’s head of distribution. “The whole start-up operation has been a great success so far and I look forward to building and developing a very productive relationship with DHL.”
* The contract between the two companies comes after Poundland revealed plans to invest £40 million on a 350,000 sq ft distribution warehouse in Harlow, which would create 650 jobs.
