Peter Ulber is replacing Monika Ribar as chief executive officer of Panalpina when she steps down at the end of May.
He has spent much of his career with Kuehne + Nagel. In 2001 he moved to London to head the UK operations later adding Ireland to his portfolio. He went on to become head of Kuehne & Nagel’s North West Europe region which also includes Scandinavia and Finland.
In January 2009 he became a member of the Kuehne + Nagel group’s management board.
Ulber left Kuehne + Nagel at the end of 2011 to found Charleston Enterprise Group based in Charleston, South Carolina.
The change of CEO has been planned by Ribar and the board of directors of Panalpina World Transport as part of the company’s on-going succession process.
Ribar, who has worked for Panalpina for almost 23 years and served as CEO for the past seven, currently also serves on other companies’ boards of directors and has decided to turn her focus on these non-executive managerial roles for the foreseeable future.
“Monika has guided the enterprise through one of the most difficult phases of its recent history and successfully geared it towards the new challenges,” said Rudolf W Hug, chairman of Panalpina’s board of directors.
Ulber will take on his new role at the company on 1 June. “We feel fortunate that we could attract one of the globally most respected freight forwarding experts and entrepreneurs and secure his services as CEO of Panalpina, said Hug.
“His entrepreneurial track record is impressive and we are convinced that he will succeed in further expanding the company’s position in the world markets.”
