DHL has won a four-year contract to provide logistics services to all of National Grid’s UK gas and electricity networks, extending a nine year relationship between the two companies.
The deal will see DHL take responsibility for logistics services associated with National Grid’s primary warehouse stores in Birmingham and Didcot, as well as smaller distribution centres around the country.
DHL already manages a number of the smaller centres and provides the transport for the materials that support National Grid’s gas and electricity networks from these facilities.
It will now also operate a fleet of vehicles, making supplier collections and deliveries, and provide an inventory management system, aiming to optimise stock holding, for the two primary stores.
All National Grid employees working in the Birmingham and Didcot centres will transfer to DHL.
