DHL Supply Chain has begun construction of a new logistics centre in Hamburg for the Tom Tailor Group, aiming to help the company keep up with the expected growth in the wholesale sector.
The 40,000 sq m warehouse is set to complement the existing DHL Supply Chain multi-user warehouse in the city and is expected to create up to 200 new jobs.
“The new central warehouse is being built on what is, for us, the perfect location and, in terms of logistics, it forms the long-term basis for continued wholesale growth within our company, said Dieter Holzer, CEO at the Tom Tailor Group.
“By having different warehouse expansion stages, we are able to react to changing structural conditions with greater flexibility and thus guarantee required warehouse capacity.”
DHL Supply Chain currently handles over 40 million items per year for the group which is set to rise to 100 million items a year by 2020.
The new facility is set to start operations in the first half of 2015.
