Bibby Distribution has won a three-year contract with Japanese food manufacturer Mizkan, which has seen it open a new 212,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution facility in Corby and employ an additional 100 staff.
Mizkan acquired a number of UK brands throughout 2012/2013, including Sarson’s vinegar, Haywards pickled vegetables and Branston pickle from Premier Foods.
The new deal will see Bibby manage the complete UK warehousing and distribution needs for the newly acquired brands from the 30,000 pallet-capacity Corby site, which was chosen as the optimum location between their different production points and outbound customer base.
“Our acquisitions were carefully selected to provide a platform to support our future growth ambition in the UK while delivering a strategic fit with our global portfolio, said Paul Shanahan, managing director at Mizkan UK.
“There is no shortage of 3PLs with warehouses and trucks, but we wanted a supplier with extensive experience serving the grocery market. Not only does Bibby enjoy a strong relationship with the top four UK food retailers, its bespoke IT platform can provide the transparency we need to run our business more efficiently.”
Bibby deliver an estimated 114,000 pallets annually to retailers nationwide from July and will welcome 15 new trucks and 25 trailers to its fleet over the coming weeks, to help support the contract.
