DHL Express UK has reached an agreement to sell its UK Same Day domestic courier business to Rico Logistics Ltd. It expects to finalise the deal on 31st October.
In a statement, DHL said this agreement had been reached to facilitate DHL Express’ continued focus on international express services, while providing UK Same Day domestic customers with continued best in class same day services from Rico.
DHL Express will continue to offer its Same Day International services and its Time Definite Domestic and International, as well as Day Definite services are unaffected.
Slough-based Rico Logistics was taken over by TVS Supply Chain Solutions in October 2012.
Rico, which has a turnover of around £59m, has been trading for over 25 years, with 35 warehouses in the UK and operations across Europe. Same Day is a core service for Rico.
DHL said the aim was for a seamless transition of service to Rico and it was business as usual with all accounts, booking services, rates, contacts and products available. Same Day domestic customers will receive full details on any changes prior to the business handover date.
Rico’s skills in spare parts supply made it attractive to Chorley-based TVS, which has its roots in the motor industry and provides spare parts support on behalf of its customers globally. TVS SCS is part of TVS Group, the giant Indian motor part manufacturer. Before it became part of TVS the Chorley-based business was known as Multipart.
DHL sold its UK domestic parcels business to HDNL in January 2010 as part of is move to focus on its international express operations.
