Hermes expands ParcelShop network

Hermes has increased the number of its UK myHermes ParcelShops to 3,000, estimating that the network will handle 1.5 million parcels throughout November and December 2013, which is 326 per cent more than the same time last year.

The myHermes ParcelShop was launched in June 2012, at an original 500 convenience stores in major urban locations, which were selected based on population density and online demand.

Hermes says that 80 per cent of the population are within two miles of a myHermes ParcelShop.

While customers could previously only send or return parcels via the network, Hermes is now introducing a service which will enable customers to specify a nearby shop as an alternative to home delivery.

The new service will see Hermes’ online retailer clients able to integrate the myHermes ParcelShop finder with their own web platform, so shoppers can in turn choose the nearest and most convenient delivery location for them, instead of a home delivery option.

They will be notified via SMS or email when a parcel is ready for collection.

“Our myHermes ParcelShop network forms an important part of our multi-channel approach which is designed to deliver high levels of satisfaction and ultimately create brand value,” said Steve Murray, head of new markets development.

“By adding a click and collect element to our service we are providing an even wider choice and greater convenience for our customer.”

Hermes has also announced plans to continue to expand the network throughout 2014.
